Bal Samand Palace (Jodhpur) |
Bal Samand Palace is a fine specimen of the Rajput architecture. Built in red sand stone and surrounded by wide expances of lush green gardens, it offers a quiet retreat from the hutle and bustle of lively town of Jodhpur. Situated on the banks of the Bal Samand Lake - a 13th century water reservoir that supplied drinking water to the city, it has been as exquisite setting for royal leisure and recreation for centuries. The Palace has recently been converted into a hotel with all modern amenities.
Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha. Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan after Jaipur. The world famous Mehrangarh fort dominates the skyline. From its ramparts, one can see where the old city ends and the new one begins. It is fascinating wandering around the old parts of the city, browsing through the antique shops or experiencing the ambience of this chaotic, bustling, sun-struck city of red sand stone.
